Let this be a lesson to all hipsters; Permanent Vacation is not only a Swedish brand of clothes, it is also one of the finest labels the world has to offer right now, and with their new compilation Space Oddities - A Compilation Of Rare European Library Grooves from 1975 - 1984 they´ve dug deeper into obscurity than ever before. Library music, or mood music, source music or the French term musique d’illustration sonore is basically underground music that was produced from the early 50´s and onwards, mainly to be used in commercials, TV-shows, and films. It was never commercially available and collectors have been forced to rely on bootlegs and edit records in order to get their hands on nuggets like the ones on this compilation. After years and years of hunting down strange discs Alexis Le-Tan (journalist and member of Tigersushi Bassystem) and Jess (formerly of Jess & Crabbe and now drummer for the punk-band 101ec6) decided that it was time to change that and make their secret weapons known to a bigger audience, concentrating on the disco/funky/cosmic parts of their discoveries. They also decided that it was time to give some credit to the original composers and label owners, that have been working in the shadows for so many years, and provided the release with an extensive booklet packed with info on both the people behind the productions as well as all you need to know about the songs themselves. The excellent cover artwork was done by Check Morris and it´s a modern take on what an library record could have looked like today. Download the bomb Sons Of The Snake, by French producer Alan Shearer, that will destroy any dancefloor with its uptempo beat and electronic piano - and be sure to buy the compilation on CD or LP when it´s out on June 6th. Highly recommended.Download: Alan Shearer - Sons Of The Snake (Zshare)
